The Movies [Sunday Social]

Here we are again; Sunday! This week Sunday means the last day of Glastonbury so it’s not welcome. But right on time to cheer me up is Sunday Social. If you’ve come over from Ashley and Neely then welcome! I love a new blogging face and it’s lovely of you to stop by!

So today is all about the movies. I love movies. We have Unlimited cards for a local cinema, so we pay a monthly price and can go whenever we want. How wonderful!

1. What is your favorite movie of all time?

The teacher in me loves Despicable Me. The adult side loves Closer (which if you haven’t seen, I’m not sure we can carry on until you have), An Affair to Remember, and The Way We Were.

2. What is your favorite movie quote?

3. What is the best movie to watch for a girls night in?

If you want a good old cry then The Vow! Such a great film. Failing that, a Nicholas Sparks film (my faves are The Notebook and A Walk To Remember).

Top Festival Moments [Friday Five]

Aloha, from sunny Glastonbury! Well I hope it’s sunny, I’m actually writing this on Tuesday so I’m assuming there will be sun. By now I guess that I will have eaten lots of pork sandwiches (my favourite festival food), seen lots of bands, danced an incredible amount, and drank my yummy Malibu and Oringina (which I will definitely be drinking in moderation!). In honor of my weekend, for this week’s Friday Five I am counting my top festival moments (not just Glastonbury) from over the years.

1. BEYONCE (2011)
Oh GOSH, this was my favourite thing ever. I genuinely thought I was going to spontaneously combust with excitement when she did the Destiny’s Child medley.

2. Jay-Z (2008)
What’s Beyonce without Jay-Z? Yes, I was there when he came out to Wonderwall. It was incredible. That was when my love affair with him started and it will forever continue.

3. P!nk (2010)
Anyone knows I love this woman. I saw her first at Isle of Wight and it was amazing! She is such a performer and we loved it!

4. A Proposal (2011)
We were walking somewhere one day and we came across an engagement. The boy was on one knee, amongst the mud, surrounded by friends who had ‘Will You Marry Me’ on their backs. I probably cried and it put us all in a great mood for the day.

5. Bruce Springsteen (2009)
This year we were joined by W’s dad and friend. The hilarity! His whole family a The Boss fanatics so plans were made to get to the ‘optimum spot’ for his set. It was my first encounter of Bruce and I came away just astounded with everything about his performance.

And there we go. Such memories, I can't wait to make new ones this year! Do any of you have any top festival moments?

Glastonbury Haul

The time has come for my favourite trip... Glastonbury Festival! This is what I live for in the Summer; I love everything about it (yes, even the five days with no shower) and I cannot wait. I'm heading down today straight after school and will arrive on site at 10pm, but luckily everyone else went this morning so my bag went with them. They'll also put my tent up for me... What darlings!

Last Sunday I did my essentials shop so I've put everything in a post for you. If you're off to a festival this might help you remember what you need!

First we have the Primark Canvas Backpack and it was £9.50. I've never been a backpack person but I really like the pattern and I think the size will be perfect for lugging around my supplies for the day. Whilst in Primark I also picked up some Over the Knee Socks to wear under my wellies and these were £2.50.

The next few travel sized items I got on a 3 for £3 deal currently at Superdrug (how handy!). The Original Source Shower Gel Tea Tree & Mint, TRESemme Naturals Moisture Shampoo, and the TRESemme Naturals Moisture Conditioner are a perfect size for five days away. As I'm travelling by train I get a Green Travelers lanyard which means I can use the showers, although I'm not sure what to expect from them. I also got the Colgate Travel Toothbrush (love that it folds up), TRESemme Superior Hold Hairspray (not sure I actually need this now I think about it), and the Simple Kind to Skin Moisturising Facial Wash (a girl needs to wash her face).

Superdrug actually proved really handy for my festival shops as they have loads of deals at the moment. I picked up some Piriteze Allergy Tablets for £2.29 as these are always handy (last time, we had an emergency hay fever episode so we are prepared this time!). I stocked up on some Dove Compressed Pomegranate Deodorant for £1.92, Johnson's Baby Wipes for £1.79, Be Zingy Wet Ones Wipes for 99p, and some Superdrug Antibacterial Hand Gel for 99p. With all this I will keep clean! Finally I bought some of the new Maybelline Color Show Polka Dot Nails in Speckled Pink and Rainforest Canopy. These aren't necessary for the festival but it provided a nice excuse for new nail varnish. I absolutely love the look of these and I can't wait to try them out. I'll let you know my verdict...

I found a Camp Shower from Tiger and was only £5. I really hate the way my hair feels after a few days of no washing so I like to just spruce it up with a quick shampoo and condition half way through. At this price I don't have high hopes but let's see how it goes!

I also bought a Roll Up Water Carrier from Cotswold and this was £7 (available here). We like to have water at the campsite and this makes sure that we don't have to go anywhere for it.

Finally is the Portable Power Supply for my iPhone. I'm not sure how this will work but I thought I'd give it a go. I'll take a festival phone (my trusty old Nokia) in case it doesn't keep my phone alive for the whole weekend but why not give it a go!

Total spent: £46.16. Not too bad as I set myself a budget of £50.

Are any of you off to Glastonbury? Or any other festivals? What do you consider to be essential?

10 Things I Live For [52 Weeks...]

It's Monday, which means week 2 of 52 Weeks of Blogging With a Purpose. This week it is all about the 10 things I can't live without. This is quite a tricky one for me because there are lots of things that I love in my life so I will try my best to narrow it down to 10.

My Family. They are wonderful. I don't live near any of them but that changes nothing. We are family at the end of the day.

My Friends. I have a lot of love for my friends. The people that I have around me in London make me really happy.

Music. I cannot go anywhere without listening to music. Someone once said that listening to music when going somewhere is for people who can't be alone with their thoughts. Wrong (for me anyway).

Nail varnish. I hate having bare nails. On some people if looks great, but I like to have colourful nails.

Flowers. There's something about flowers that make things feel better.

Summer. The sun. The warmth. The fun.

Photographs. Slightly ironic as I have a lack of photos today, but I love taking picture while I'm out and being able to look back on those times.

Memories. I like to reminisce on the good times.

Fun. Imagine a life without fun! Horrible, right?

Lazy days. Just those days, every once in a while, when you do nothing. They are the best.

On a slightly different note... Can I just say how much I'm loving this song!

Shopping & Style [Sunday Social]

Oh hey! It's Sunday Social time again, why does it come around so quickly?! If you've joined me from Ashley or Neely then welcome. It's lovely to see you as always. This week it's all about shopping. Let's get going...

1. What is your favorite store to shop at?
Good old Primarkt. It's so close to my house so I'm always in there.

2. If you could afford anything and everything, which designer brand would you covet?
I enjoy Stella McCartney's dresses. One day beautiful dress, one day...

3. What is your must have closet staple?
I've taken a huge liking to midi skirts at the moment, those or jeggings.

4. What is your favorite kind of shoes? (brand or type)
Just plain ballerina pumps. So comfy for work! But I love a wedge for a night out.

5. What is the best clothing deal you've ever gotten? (sale or amazing find)
I can't think of something right now. But I like to buy things that will last a while...

6. What is a style you'd love to try?
I'd love to be able to pull off maxi skirts... But they are a no go for me!

That's all for this week. See you next Sunday!

We're On a Boat

Hi there! I'm back with a new post for The London List. If you don't know what The London List is; it's a series I've started to document the fun things that I have been doing since moving to London (take a look here). Maybe it will give you some ideas for fun activities you can do too.

So last Sunday we went on a boat trip down the Thames. I'm not sure where the idea came from but it was such a great time so whoever of my friends came up with idea; snaps for you. We rented a small diesel boat for the 5 of us from Taggs Boatyard in Thames Ditton. I'm not sure how it worked out price wise but it wasn't too expensive considering we had it for 8 hours. We took it out, stopped at a pub for a delicious roast and then made our way back. I even drove and didn't crash (which is quite a miracle - even though we were going about 5 mph at the fastest).

I took the pictures from my camera onto my laptop when I got home, but between then and now my charger has broken. Luckily I uploaded some pictures to my Facebook so I could grab them from there. So here you go...

Who Am I? [52 Weeks of Blogging With a Purpose Week 1]

Who am I? I'm Jean Valjean! Well, I'm not... I'm actually Sarah, but 'who am I' always reminds me of Les Mis.

I'm joining Becky (over at From Mrs. to Mama) and her new challenge; 52 Weeks of Blogging With a Purpose. This is exciting for me as I like having prompts for my blogging when I've hit a bit of a mind block. If you've joined me from Becky's blog then welcome! It's lovely to see you, and why not stick around for a bit.

So, who am I?

I am a teacher. Finally, after years of studying, I decided that teaching is what I wanted to do with my life. So this year I've been doing supply work at various schools but I've now found a school that I love. I'm currently there as a speech and language therapist, but from September I will be an SEN teacher.

I am a friend. There are friends that I have lost contact with over the years but the people who are still in my life are the people I want there. Since moving to London I am enjoying making new friends and looking forward to the memories I can make with them.

I am a daughter. There are have been ups and downs with parents, but they are family and I love them.

I am an anxiety sufferer. I don't let it rule my life or define me, but it is there and it is part of me. I worry about a lot, it may be small but it may be big, and I work hard to overcome those fears.

I hope to become many more things in the future. But for now, that's what makes me who I am. Who are you and what makes you you?

Pet Peeves [Sunday Social]

Hello! It’s Sunday again and that means one thing – Sunday Social time! If you’ve come on over from Ashley or Neely then welcome, it’s good to see you. Let’s begin…

1. What is your biggest driving pet peeve?
I don’t drive but I really hate when people don’t indicate. It is just the worst!

2. What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?
I’m a pretty happy blogger so far. If I find anything that annoys me then I’ll let you know…

3. What is your biggest general pet peeve?
People that chew with their mouths open. Especially something noisy like chewing gum.

4. What is your most irrational fear?
I hate needles so, so much. I went to go and have my injections for Thailand and it took an hour and a half for me to be able to get them. Wimp much?

5. Name 3 celebrities you'd want to have dinner with.
Jennifer Lawrence (she’s so lovely!), Mark Owen (he’s so little and Northern), Naya Rivera (so beautiful).

I’ve Got Your Number–Sophie Kinsella

I love reading. According to my mum I would read all the time and that has never changed. My bookshelf is ridiculously over packed and I always have at least 3 new books just waiting for me (on their own little shelf). Because of this I thought I might start the Book Club. I love to scour the internet for new books so this little series might help you in your hunt for a new read...

I've Got Your Number

Synopsis (Source):
Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier.  She is about to marry the ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her 'happy ever after' begins to fall apart.  Not only has she lost her engagement ring but in the panic that followed, she has now lost her phone. As she paces shakily round the hotel foyer she spots an abandoned phone in a bin. Finders keepers!  Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton doesn't agree.  He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading all his messages and wading into his personal life.
What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other's lives through emails and text messages.  As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents... she soon realises that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

My Thoughts:
Amongst my favourite authors is the wonderful Sophie Kinsella. She wrote the Shopaholic book series and I have read and loved all of her books. I know that with her books I can’t go wrong. I love a rom-com type of book and hers are just perfect. So when I saw I’ve Got Your Number (available here) was available to pre-order I was all over that like a rash!

This wasn’t my favourite of Kinsella’s books, however I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really felt that I could sympathise with Poppy and what she was going through; you can’t help but root for her and a happy ending. The rest of the characters are well written too, you can tell that Kinsella really develops her characters and thinks carefully (I especially liked the overachieving in-laws and the hilarious best friends).

It’s hard to put this book down once you've been catapulted into Poppy’s world! If you’re looking for a light summer read for holidays then this is perfect.

My Next Book: Billy and Me – Giovanna Fletcher

If you have any suggestions for new books to read, leave me a comment below; I'm always looking for new books and authors to sink my teeth into!
