New Year [Sunday Social]

Here’s to the last Sunday Social of 2013!

1. What is the best New Years Eve you've ever had?
For the past four years we’ve been to a friends flat down the road and they’re always super fun!

2. Are you doing anything for NYE this year and if so what?
This year instead of a house party, we’re heading to Camden to see Craig Charles DJ. Should be interesting!

3. Name a book we should all read come January?
Anything by Dorothy Koomson. She’s such a wonderful writer.

4. What are your new year's resolutions?
I stopped making resolutions years back! I find I keep to them if  don’t plan them (if that makes sense!).

And there we have it. See you in 2014!

A Boxing Day Sales Shop

Christmas has come and gone for another year. It’s time to get ready to put away those Christmas trees, cards and decorations. But it’s also time to hit those sales. I’m not so great in big crowds so I just head to our small selection of shops down the road to see what I could find.

New Look

New Look

I got myself two things in New Look; the beautiful lacy top on the left (£22.99 £7) and the red canvas style trainers (£11.99 £5). I have a love of everything with lace so as soon as I saw this I knew that I needed it; it can be paired with jeans for a casual look and heels for a night out.

Boots

100_2744 edit

My new obsession is Soap and Glory so I couldn’t let these lovely sets go without grabbing them. On the left is Crazy Sexy Kohl (£18 £9) and Powder Trip (£20 £10) on the right.

Crazy Sexy Kohl

The Crazy Sexy Kohl  kit has five Smoulder Kohl pencils in Superblack, Cocoa Bean, Aquabat, Blue My Mind, and Grapevine. I absolute love these; they have a lovely creamy texture that makes them easy to apply and smudge for a more subtle look. Add one of the three Lid Stuff shadows (in Aubersheen, Smokin’ or Dandy Plum) for a lovely smoky look.

Powder Trip

The Powder Trip set includes the Solar Powder Multi Shade Bronzer (bottom left), the Love at First Blush Multi Shimmer Blushing Powder (top right) and the Blow All Out Illuminating Face Powder (top left), as well as a Handy Half-Moon Powder Brush and a humongous mirror to help you apply on the go. I like to be quite subtle with my make up so I find these really handy to add a little bit of shimmer to my look.

TK Maxx

TK Maxx

I know that this wasn’t technically a sale item but as TK Maxx is always cheaper I’ve included this lovely Raymond Waite’s Storage Bin (£6.99). I bought this especially to hold all my larger styling tools by my bed so they#re not just hanging out on the floor ready for me to tread on.

That is all for my Boxing Day shopping. On the few things I bought I should have spent £79.97 but actually spent £37.99. Fabulous!

The Holidays Have Begun [Sunday Social]

Hooooray! It’s officially the Christmas holidays and boy am I exhausted from my first term of being a real life teacher. But the holidays means that I am getting back into my blogging, finally! But for now, let’s get into the last Sunday Social before Christmas.

1. What is your favorite holiday season tradition?
We always go and do Christmas Eve with my family and then Christmas Day with W’s family.

2. Do you have a certain holiday movie you watch more than others? If so what is it?
We watched Polar Express at school the other day and I forgot how wonderful that film is.

3. Show us your favorite decoration or pinterest decoration you wish you could have.
I love my little owl!
Christmas Decoration

4. What is your favorite holiday song?

5. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Does trifle count as a holiday desert?

6. What is on your wish list this year?
Wedding money!

And that’s it. Stay tuned to see the lovely things I've been buying in the run up to Christmas, and some of my favourites from the year.

Christmas Cheer [Sunday Social]

Aloha! Is everyone starting to feel Christmassy yet? I sure am! I have my tree up, and I’m preparing my Christmas lessons for next week. It’s all so exciting!

1. What is your favourite Holiday Movie/TV Special?
I love Elf. Who doesn’t?!

2. Do you do any volunteering during the holidays if so what? If not what would you do?
I don’t no… But I really would love to do something. I think that next year (once I’ve settled into teaching and don’t have so much to do) I’ll get involved.

3. What is your favourite toy received as a child for the holidays?
I genuinely can’t remember. I think it was a toy dog that had puppies. It was wonderful, I took it everywhere!

4. What was your must have item in high school for the holidays?
I don’t remember this one…

5. What do you do on Christmas Eve?
I’m half Chilean, so all of my mums side of the family are over there. I go to her house and we open presents, eat dinner, and Skype with the Chileans.

Just a little insight to my Christmas… I’m on my last week of term next week so after Friday I’’'ll have my life back for two weeks!

The Return of Sunday Social

Hello there!

Can you believe that it’s December already?! It’s been such a busy few weeks that I’ve struggled to actually get to my laptop to sit and do work, let alone do some blogging.

1. What is the wallpaper on your cell phone?
It’s cream with some flowers at the bottom. Nothing special, just very pretty.

2. What do you keep beside your bed?
Glasses, books, lamp, ring, hair dryer, brush, and mousse.

3. What is your least favorite chore?
Cleaning the kitchen. I really hate it!

4. If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be?
Sorting my hair out. It would be wonderful if I could just snap my fingers and it’s dry and fancy.

5. What do you do to vent anger?
Talk to a friend. They must get fed up of listening to me moan!

6. What is your favorite holiday of the year and why?
Christmas. Once it gets closer I remember how much I love it.

And there we go. I keep promising that I’m back on the blogging, but with only a few weeks left at work, I’m definitely going to make more of an effort!

This or That Tag

Because Sunday Social this week is all about Thanksgiving, and I am not American (although a move to America might be on the cards on day) I decided to do something else this Sunday. I saw this post on Sarah's Little World. It’s a chance to get to know me just that little bit better.

Make up;

1. blush or bronzer – Blusher. I used to be a bronzer all over but I am now a convert to blush.
2. lip gloss or lip stick – Lipstick. Always.
3. eyeliner or mascara – I’m more partial to mascara. I have long lashes anyway so I like to make them a focus.
4. foundation or concealer – Foundation. I don’t get many spots so it’s easy to cover them up with all over foundation.
5. natural or coloured eyeshadow – Natural. I don’t think I’ve worn coloured eyeshadow since I was 16!
6. pressed or loose eyeshadow – Pressed eyeshadow (although I used to be obsessed with those Barry M Dazzle Dusts when I was younger).
7. brush or sponge – I love the Real Techniques brushes. I swear by them whenever I do any make up now.

Nails;

1. opi or china glaze – Netither.
2. long or short – Mine are somewhere in the middle. They break easily though so I always have to cut them so they’re the same.
3. acrylic or natural – Natural now, gels not too long ago.
4. bright or dark – Both. I love a pastel colour, but I also love a deep red.
5. flower or no flower – No flower.

Body;
1. perfume or body splash – Body splash. I carry one in my bag, always.
2. lotion or body butter – Lotion. I’m using a delicious Soap and Glory one at the moment.
3. body wash or soap – Body wash, I don’t like the squeeky feeling that the soap leaves.
4. lush or other – Other. I’ve never really got into Lush.

Fashion;

1. jeans or sweat pants – Jeans. I will only wear sweat pants around the house. I say sweat pants, I mean pyjamas.
2. long sleeves or short sleeves – Long sleeves (unless it’s really hot).
3. dress or skirt – Dresses. So much easier!
4. scarves or hats – I have an impressive array of both.
5. studs or dangling earrings – Neither. I let me ear piercings close up pretty much the month after I had them done.
6. necklace or bracelet – Either, but only on an occasion, not every day.
7. heels or flats – Flats in the day, heels on a night out.
8. cowboy boots or riding boots – Neither.
9. jackets or hoodies – Both. If it’s extra cold I’ll put on a hood ie under a jaket.
10. forever 21 or charlotte russe – Neither.

Hair;
1. curly or straight – Curly. It suits me much better.
2. bun or ponytail – Both. Depends how it turns out really.
3. bobby pin or butterfly clips – Bobby pins. I always find loads around my house because I never put them in the same place.
4. hairspray or gel – Hairspray.
5. long or short – Long hair.
6. dark or light – Dark, but I have ombre ends.
7. side swept bangs or full bangs – Side swept. I wear glasses so I don’t think I suit a full bang.
8. up or down – Down. But you know when I’m in a serious mood at work because I’ll put it up!

Random;
1. rain or shine – Both!
2. summer or winter – Winter is more cosy.
3. fall or spring – Fall is pretty, but there is something about spring that feels lovely.
4. chocolate or vanilla – Chocolate. Full stop.

And there we have it, a little more about me. I’m excited to be back into blogging so I’ll see you all soon.

P.S Sorry for a lack of pictures, I'm on my new laptop (it's touchscreen - ooooh fancy!) and I need to swap my pictures onto here.

A Well Deserved Break

Aloha!

I have been incredibly absent from blogging in the last month. It’s been busy with work, and half term was spent in Italy for a friend’s wedding.

This is just a quick note to say that, from Sunday, I will be back and raring to go with the blog.

See you then Smile

Tales from Thailand: Chiang Mai

So six weeks after we returned, I’m finally getting my last Thailand post up!

Chiang Mai  was the last place that we visited while in Thailand. And it was by far my favourite place. Not only was it just wonderful, a friend from uni lives there so it was lovely to catch up with her.

By far my favourite day was the day that this happened… Read all about it here!

Putaringonit (2)_opt

Saying that, the rest of the time in Chiang Mai was absolutely fabulous. With my uni friend, we rented mopeds (I am loving the moped after this holiday!)  and took a trip up Doi Suthep which is a hill with a Buddhist temple on it. We took part in a lot of the worship and traditions up there which was really interesting. We were also blessed by a monk! I am absolutely in love with this place!

We also had a couple of nights out while we were there. On both we went to this amazing reggae bar in the backpacker area (although there was some boy drama to deal with but that happens anywhere in the world!).

And we also wandered the market, where we found some weird and wonderful things…

And finally… Look at this amazing plane and Ronald McDonald!

Another Late Sunday Social

Oh I just can’t keep up with life at the moment! I’ve had a new child in my class so I’ve come home exhausted every day. But here I am at 8pm on a Monday night, ready to get my blog on.

1. What is the first blog you ever followed?
I cannot even remember!

2. What was your first blog post about?
It wasn’t too long ago… I think i was just a sweeping introduction.

3. Who left you your first blog comment?
I don’t remember that either! I lost all of my comments when I switched from Google+ to Blogger so I can’t even have a look.

4. Who was the first blogger you ever met in person?
I’ve not been lucky enough to get to that point yet, but maybe one day!

5. What was your first “blogging milestone?”
For me, it was getting to 50 posts and not giving up. I’d tried before and didn’t get past a day so I was super proud of myself.

Thanks for stopping by Smile And see you next Sunday!

Back in the Day [Sunday Social]

11 Prom
1. What were you like in middle school and high school?
I was so very shy. I kind of got on with everyone and just didn’t cause trouble. I think I had one or two detentions in my whole life!

2. What were your favorite pastimes?
Theme Hospital. I loved sitting there and playing it!

3. What songs were you obsessed with?
Anything by NSync. It’s one of the things I listened to the most.

4. What fashion statement do you look backing and cringe?
Massive jeans – those really wide legged ones! I don’t have a picture to share but trust me you don’t want to see them!

5. Who was your celeb crush?
I can’t remember (that’s not because it was embarrassing – I just have no idea!).

6. What was your favorite movie?
I loved A Walk to Remember and Jawbreaker.

The Perfect Venue?

If you’ve been keeping up with me lately, you’ll have seen that I’m recently an engaged woman. Weeeeee! It’s all so exciting! I’ve officially asked my two bridesmaids, and they’ve agreed, and we’ve already started looking at guests. We have a provisional date that is not until May 2015 so we’re not full into the planning yet.

But. We have already been to a venue. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! I’d seen pictures and loved it already but when we got there I was in awe. I could picture my whole day there, from walking down the aisle, to the yummy dinner, and to the dancing and drinks at the reception.

101

The venue is Tythe Barnin Oxfordshire. We drove down on Saturday straight from Birmingham (and it wasn’t a long journey – bonus for the Brummie fam), and we noticed a Premier Inn near the venue (double bonus for people that will need to stay). We parked and there was a nice orchard that they were pumping some music into. My first thought: opportunity for beautiful wedding day pictures.

120

Then you turn the corner and are greeted by this lovely courtyard. Perfect for pre-ceremony drinks, I think you would agree.

098

Then there is the back where, and now we need to pray that it’s a sunny May day, the ceremony would be held. I’ll walk down the middle in my lovely dress, and stand where the camera is. And everyone will look at me in awe of me and my wonderful dress.

116

While we’re off having our pictures the guests can mill around and have a glass of bubbly (Bucks Fizz of course). The venue offer lawn games so they can enjoy some Jenga, Connect 4, and more! They will have use of the inside and out of this area, while being serenaded by a band that will be in the room in the second picture – the doors open so everyone can hear them.

118

110

114

And then there is the meal. I’m going to take this opportunity to tell you that Tythe Barn use Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts which is one of the things that drew me towards this particular venue. I’ve had a look at the options and they are all absolutely mouth watering and so much choice. We’ve not decided on the actual meal we definitely are having a hog roast during the evening. Here’s the inside where the meal will be (we’re having tables of 8 rather than these banquet tables).

105

That’s all the photos I have. Isn’t it stunning? I’m in love! It is slightly more expensive than we were hoping but you can’t put a price on the perfect day… Now just to convince the other half that that’s true and get it booked!

I’m so excited to be sharing my wedding planning journey with you all. If you have any suggestions or advice, send them my way please!

If you want more information about Tythe Barn, here’s the website.
