The Teacher Diaries

Margarita Rambles is still only 4 months old so I’ve not really settled on a direction yet. Plus I like being able to blog about what I want… I’ve been discovering new make up through the blog, I’ve been trying to live a more exciting London lifestyle through the blog, and lots of other things so I’m not quite ready to focus myself yet.

But what I am adding is The Teacher Diaries.

teacher diaries

As you’ve probably gathered, I’m a new teacher. I graduated from my teacher training in 2012, and for the last year I have been supplying around London. In January I was very lucky (or so I thought) to get a long term position in a school, which did not go well at all. I ended up leaving for my own benefit as I just couldn’t see myself staying there any longer.

After Easter I started at a new school down the road from mine as a TA, focussing on Speech and Language therapy with the younger children. Then I got offered a permanent job at the school as a class teacher in one of the language base classes. This class is a SEN class of 7 children, and they all have language difficulties; though some are more severe than others. I am so excited for this new challenge!

So The Teacher Diaries is my chance to share my experiences with you all. Being new to teaching, I’ll also be sharing things that I’ve learnt and things that I have found useful. Other teachers, feel free to get involved and help me out!

If I Had A Superpower… [52 Weeks]

… it would be time manipulation.

So many times I have looked at a clock and it has just got so late in the day without even realising it. I’d love to be able to rewind/freeze/fast-forward time, imagine how useful it would be!

I could have all the time in the world to teach the children and spend time to ensure they understand.

I could have more time for the planning and paperwork involved in teaching.

I could fast-forward those pesky staff meetings that just go on too long.

I could have more time to laze about before I have to do something.

I could fast-forward those times when you’re waiting for something exciting.

Doesn’t that sound wonderful?! What superpower would you like to have… Go on, you can have anything!

[Sunday Social]

Hi there! Let’s dive straight into todays Sunday Social…

1. What are 3 items you can't live without on a daily basis (water, food, shelter, and clothes don't count)?
My phone, my diary, lip balm.

2. What is your all time favourite book? Why?
I can’t pick just one, so here’s two for you. Dorothy Koomson – My Friends Girl and JoJo Moyles – The Girl You Left Behind. I can tell you that I cried in both of these books!

3. What is something you'd like to accomplish before the end of 2013?
Get through a full term of teaching without having a panic attack!

4. If you could go back and relive any year of your life which year would it be?
I liked 2007/2008 (my second year of uni) I had some really good friends and I was part of the student radio which was fun. And I’d finally settled into my course after a turbulent start!

5. What do you wish people knew about you without you having to tell them?
I don’t really tell people, but I can get social anxiety which is why I can be so quiet at times.

Well there we go. I’m off to a wedding this afternoon which will be lovely! Also sorry for the lack of pictures, I searched Facebook for a one of me at that time and none are one’s I would like to share; I was very un-photogenic in that year.

Elegant Touch Envy Nail Wraps

After my success with the Essie Sleek Stick nail stickers I was really excited to head to Boots/Superdrug and get some more. There wasn’t a big selection in the local shops so I had to make do. I got the Elegant Touch Envy Nail Wraps in Deckchair Pastels from Boots (£5). I think they’re really pretty; they are different pastel shades with vertical white lines and really nice for summer.

Not going to lie, that’s where my love of these nail wraps ends.

Issue #1 – The sizes. Like the Essie set, there are 18 stickers and 9 sizes. With this in mind I thought it would be easy to find the right fit. I managed to get the right size for my little finger and that was it. The rest are either slightly too big (and I’ve had to try and trim them down) or too small (so there are gaps either side). And as for my ring finger, I couldn’t even find the right fit so I’ve had to use nail varnish (Rimmel 239 Your Majesty).

Issue #2 – Application. I cannot find the words to use here, but the Essie wraps felt sturdy while there were quite floppy. They also weren’t easy to line up the nail edge. They also weren’t easy to smooth down over the whole nail so the edges were risen and came off easily.

I’m really sad that I had to write a post like this about something I was excited for. I ended taking them off soon after I applied them because they were just annoying me. Have you used any of the Elegant Touch nail stickers, and what are your thought

A Birthday Present to Myself

Today is my birthdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Yay! Yippe! Hoorah! I’m 26 today (or as my friend would say – 21 with 5 years experience). I’ve always loved my birthday, not for the presents (although it helps), just because it makes me happy.

To celebrate my birthday I bought myself a present. This pug cushion. It’s from Primark and it was £4. Look at that face, and he’s got sunglasses on, he's having a whale of a time!

There you go. This was basically a quick post to tell you a) that it’s my birthday, and b) how much I love this cushion.
